d&b’s new software tool NoizCalc, enables system designers to assess how multiple complex and coherently emitting sources (like d&b line arrays and subwoofers) will impact on areas outside the listening field. It’s a significant enhancement in the prediction and planning toolbox for existing d&b systems. NoizCalc was created in collaboration with noise consulting and software development experts, SoundPLAN.

The software works by taking data from d&b’s ArrayCalc simulation software and calculating snapshots to show the sound propagation and relative attenuation values towards the far field for a certain scenario. The results are displayed on a 3D terrain map showing the calculated emission on the areas surrounding the audience listening zones. The graphic representation of the system’s output lets users optimise for listeners while satisfying local noise restrictions and offsite regulations while planning PA for events. With these tools, the optimal sonic experience is delivered reliably and faithfully to the right ears, and not the wrong ones.
